Another Waynwright Day – August 31st
Another Waynwright Day on Saturday 31st August sees the launch of 16 year old Amy Bray’s (of Matterdale) environment charity Another Way asking volunteers and supporters to climb one of the 214 Wainwright fells in the Lake District to demonstrate unity towards the health of ourselves and our planet. The event will feature a unique range of activities on the fells to promote individual and collective change for living in environmentally sustainable ways. It will be fun and educational, bringing together individuals and organisations who all want to see a better future, where biodiversity thrives alongside the human race.
With over 40 activities already planned they include a fell running challenge, the RSPB demonstrating moth varieties in Mardale, Brathay Trust leading a creative sculpture group, wild art, nature friendly farming methods, compost making from bracken, peat restoration, an 85th birthday quiz for Friends of the Lake District, Windermere school environmental activities, art and poetry, cake sharing (no waste and no single use packaging!), 2 choirs, a brass band with specially composed music, folk music and many others.
Mike Berners-Lee the author of ‘There’s no planet B’ has produced an environmental guide for the event to help reduce the carbon footprint of the event and also to help spread information more widely. All participants will be asked to collect litter during the day and to follow main footpaths. Fix the Fells and the Wainwright Society are also supporting Amy. In addition, Another Way will be planting a tree for every event participant. Up to 1700 trees will be planted in Matterdale in the Autumn as part of supporting nature and relieving flood and drought problems
Please support Amy by signing up as an Ambassador or supporter for the event on the 31st August at www.another-way.org.uk and share with your friends.
