Construction has begun! 27 year-8 and year-9 students started their journey to building their very own powered glider. Today students looked at how wings are designed on planes and gliders, how lift and centre of gravity are integral in the flight of a glider before constructing a prototype glider and testing them.
Students improved their design by changing the design of the wings, shifting the centre of gravity of their prototype and adjusting the ailerons for that perfect lift and flight. Glider prototypes were entered into a competition at the end of the session for the longest flight and one team; Ethan and Noah achieved the longest flight. Well done to both of them. I would like to thank Mrs Bell for cooking the pizza halfway through the session to keep our strength up and to Mr Stewart for pulling his sleeves up and helping students with their prototype build. Here’s to the next few weeks as we head towards the trust glider competition.
